He has no concern for the student’s success, doesn’t return emails. My high school calculus teacher does a better job of “teaching”. It is tough to learn from someone that gets lost in his work during lecture. He loses focus when he is going through his prepared notes. He goes through the topics fast without explaining it. I went to his office to discuss a test problem I thought I had correct but it was marked wrong. He agreed that I was correct but refused to change my grade. He said it would be too much work to not only change mine but others in the same situation.

Pros: His random stories are funny and worth hearing.
Cons: He writes his lecture notes before class and goes through them very quickly, so it's hard to keep up with. He isn't fantastic at explaining foreign concepts.

Pros: Animated
Cons: Off topic occasionally
Skips steps sometimes
Will come out the the wrong answer on a problem and will continue moving on without correcting his mistakes.
Its a engineering math class so its hard but having him as a teacher made it even more difficult to learn the material. I wasnt very fond of his teaching style. Using pre-written over-heads vs working out problems step by step with the class.

Pros: He know what he's talking about. His stories are always interesting.
Cons: He doesn't know how to teach the material.
If you can, avoid Catlin and get a different professor. It'll save you the time and effort.

Pros: He explains things in a very interesting way that helps you remember
He sometimes cusses in Italian (you can only hear him if you sit in the front and listen carefully after he messes up)
He doesn't mess up very often, unless he makes his own problem up on the fly
He will tell random stories about his visits in Europe (but often times its relevant to the material)
He always gets through the material early, but doesn't go too fast (at least in my opinion)
Cons: Sometimes his stories were irrelevant to the material.

Very good Professor. He makes the lecture interesting by bringing in unrelated stories to get your mind off the difficulty of the material. He often makes fun of himself, and he sometimes shows you the theory behind what you are learning and then makes interesting observations. If I had the chance to take another course with him, I would.
