Deadline Approaching for Phi Kappa Phi Award Programs

By Francine Fluetsch on March 29, 2017

Are you a member of Phi Kappa Phi? If so, this article is for you. According to this press release, Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society, is currently accepting applications for its Love of Learning Award and Literacy Grant programs until Saturday, April 1. That deadline is coming up pretty soon, so if you haven’t applied yet, you should get your application in ASAP. So what exactly do these awards entail?

The Love of Learning awards are awarded twice a year and help fund post-baccalaureate professional development of active Phi Kappa Phi members, so you definitely don’t want to miss out! This is one of the major benefits of being in such a prestigious honor society. The award includes funding for things like graduate and professional studies that you want to pursue after you get your bachelor’s, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development, travel related to teaching and research, and more. How exciting is that? Most students have to put off thoughts of post-baccalaureate education because of the cost so this could be your way in. Phi Kappa Phi will award grants of $500 each to 100 members during Session A of the program. To be eligible, applicants must have completed their baccalaureate studies by the April 1 deadline.

The Literacy Grant Program provides funding for Phi Kappa Phi chapters and members for projects that are aimed at literacy initiatives to help the community.

According to the press release, “Grants of up to $2,500 are available for new and ongoing projects ranging from traditional reading initiatives to those fostering learning in cultural, digital, financial, health, historical literacy and beyond.”

Not only will this be a great resume booster, it will also give you the priceless joy of helping your community out with a fun project to promote literacy.

Both of these applications are due April 1, 2017. For more information about eligibility requirements as well as application instructions, click here.

Since 1933, the Society’s award programs have recognized members and students on its chapter campuses for outstanding academic achievement. Currently, $1.4 million is awarded each biennium to qualifying students and members through graduate fellowships, funding for post-baccalaureate development, member and chapter awards, and grants for local, national, and international literacy initiatives. There is a little something for everyone, no matter where you are in your academic career. So what are you waiting for? Get your applications in for both the Love of Learning Award and Literacy Grant before they close.
